Tryst

What it is

Tryst is more than a traditional game lobby client--the software that matches up on-line gamers to play internet multiplayer games. Tryst is a window to the diverse communities of FederationX.NET, Magnetar Games' advanced distributive network for games and interactive applications. Tryst provides connections to Guilds, the super-peers that host the matchmaking and repository services for FederationX.NET. The super-peer is also known as a 'federate'. Each federate promotes one or more specific types of games or interactive applications. Tryst is not only a front-end client to the federate's lobby service, but also a browser to access content related to that federate's special applications.

Tryst is capable of launching different types of distributive applications. Built as a Microsoft DirectPlay lobby client to launch and synchronize any DirectPlay lobby enabled games, Tryst can also launch many command-line parameter driven multiplayer games such as HalfLife or Quake by customizing or extending Guild's XML application launching templates.

Tryst 1.1 now supports in-lobby web-based application launching. This essentially provides a lobby solution for the new generation of interactive web-based applications. Games created with JavaScript, Flash, and X3D/VRML can now be integrated seamlessly with Tryst and fully utilize its communication/collaboration facilities like instant messaging or voice chat during game play.

The platform release includes the FederationX framework, which is the runtime of the MAGNETAR multi-agent system, and its configuration utility known as Matrix. These components provide a zero-administration, zero-installation environment for deploying web-based applications such as Chronos web-based games. Chronos is the de facto network engine that provides P2P connectivity for distributive FederationX applications.

Tryst is also the showcase project of FX Visuals, Magnetar's DirectDraw Delphi VCL component set for rapid creation of Microsoft DirectDraw applications.
