Investor Information

Magnetar Games Corporation is registered as an Eligible Business Corporation (EBC) under the BC Small Business Venture Capital Act (Act). The program offers refundable tax credits to B.C. investors who make qualified investments in early-stage companies. Companies will no longer have to establish a holding company in order to access tax credits for their investors. This cuts red tape for business and eliminates additional incorporation and filing costs. The amendments to the Act are part of government's commitment towards supporting an 'open for business' climate with respect to access to private capital.

Eligible Investors

Tax credits are available to investors who are residents of British Columbia, or to corporations that owe provincial tax and file a tax return in the province.

Tax Credit Incentive

A 30% refundable tax credit is available to individual investors residing in British Columbia who make eligible investments in an EBC with the following conditions:

• The maximum credit is $60,000 per individual per year,
• The investment may be made within the calendar year or within 60 days of the end of the taxation year, and
• Unused tax credits may be carried forward four years by the investor, but must be claimed within three years from the date of investment.

A 30% non-refundable tax credit is also available to corporate investors that make eligible investments in an EBC with the following conditions:

• No limit to the tax credit that can be claimed, however, the credit may only be used to offset provincial taxes owing, and
• Unused tax credits may be carried forward four years by the investor, but must be claimed within three years from the date of investment.
